ChatGPT and Claude can both create presentation files. Start with the job: compare the documented PowerPoint or connected Slides routes in ChatGPT if your team already works there, and Claude’s file-creation route if you want a new downloadable PPTX from source material. Then check the corrections and edits the recipient will need. This guide compares those routes, not a benchmark winner.
The right starting point is the workflow available to your account. A native app’s file tools and integrations are not automatically available wherever its underlying model can be selected.
What to take away.
Compare the same source packet and required output.
Separate factual corrections from layout revisions.
Evaluate the final editing environment.
Choose by the job and final file
Choose the required handoff before comparing drafts. The table is a selection method, not an observed product ranking. Use the same source packet and inspect the downloaded result before deciding.
| Requirement | Check before choosing |
|---|---|
| Existing company deck | Preserve its layout and required editable objects. Trial a small correction in the available route before moving the whole deck. |
| New deck from a memo | Give both tools the same source, slide count and required format. Compare facts before visual polish. |
| Recipient must edit a table | Change a real table cell in the delivered file and reopen it. A screenshot of a table does not pass. |
Compare the product interfaces first
The differences below describe documented product workflows reviewed on 28 September 2026. They support a shortlist, not a claim that one model always writes or designs better. Match the route to your existing files and the recipient’s editing environment.
For a new deck, either route may be adequate. For an existing deck, changing the authoring environment can add work even when the generated text is good. A connected Google Slides route in one product and a downloaded file in another should not be treated as the same handoff.
| Requirement | ChatGPT | Claude |
|---|---|---|
| Creation route | ChatGPT’s guide documents source/template-based presentations and a PowerPoint add-in | Claude’s file tools create downloadable PPTX files |
| Existing deck | The add-in route works in an open PowerPoint; the source-based route can use a reference deck | File creation is a download/save workflow; do not infer an in-editor add-in from that feature |
| Recipient workflow | Choose the PowerPoint or connected Google Slides route that matches the recipient | Download the PPTX for editing, or save the generated file to Google Drive |
| Best starting point | An existing PowerPoint/template or a connected Slides assignment | A new office file from a bounded source packet |
A fair five-slide task
Use an approved one-page project memo, a small table and a stated decision. Ask for five slides for the same audience and require the same file format. Do not give one assistant a polished outline and the other a vague topic, then attribute the difference to the product.
Fictional packet: “A four-week review covers 80 requests; 24 were late; cause unknown; a two-week pilot is proposed.” Correction 1 changes 24 to 20 and requires recalculating 30% to 25%. Correction 2 changes the audience from an operating team to the person approving resources. Record which slides, notes and titles must change; do not score a tool until you inspect its actual final file.
Download the source packet and record your own comparison
The packet below makes the five-slide task repeatable. Use the same input in each product, save the first files, then send the correction separately. This is a practice kit, not a published benchmark or a claim that either product wins.
Fictional source packet and prompts (.txt) · Blank comparison worksheet (.csv)
Expected check: the original rate is 24 ÷ 80 = 30%; the corrected rate is 20 ÷ 80 = 25%. Search the revised file for the old count and rate. Do not change the denominator or describe a reduction caused by the pilot: this is a source correction, not a measured improvement.
Record the date, product interface, account tier and displayed model in the first worksheet row. Leave unavailable details unknown. Note manual fixes and file limitations separately; a text response and a downloadable presentation are different results.
Use a rubric that separates the failure modes
Check source fidelity first: missing facts, invented statements and incorrect calculations. Then check the argument: whether the audience can follow the recommendation. Finally inspect layout and file behavior. These categories prevent a strong visual result from masking a factual problem.
Treat source errors as blocking issues rather than averaging them away with a high visual score. Record observations before choosing a winner. Do not convert a one-deck trial into a universal model ranking. A useful result is narrower: which account and workflow handled your recurring assignment with less correction and a better handoff.
| Check | What to record | When to stop and correct |
|---|---|---|
| Source fidelity | Incorrect numbers, unsupported claims and omitted qualifications | Any error that changes the decision |
| Revision consistency | Whether a corrected value reaches titles, tables, charts and notes | Old and new facts coexist in the delivered deck |
| Recipient editing | Whether the recipient can edit the required title, table cell and chart label | An essential element is flattened or cannot be maintained |
| Presentation layout | Clipped text, unreadable labels and font substitutions in the target app | The audience cannot read the evidence or condition |
| Effort | Time spent briefing, correcting and preparing the final handoff | The workflow exceeds the time you can allow for a recurring task |
The second request matters
Give each assistant the same factual correction and ask it to update every affected slide. Then request a structural change, such as moving the risk before the recommendation. Compare whether the revision preserves unrelated content and keeps the final decision consistent.
Record the extra instructions you needed. If one workflow requires a detailed follow-up and the other does not, that is relevant effort. It is still a finding about this task, not a permanent property of the model family.
Choose around the rest of your work
If you already rely on a particular native integration, it may outweigh a small difference in the initial deck. If presentation generation is the main task, a dedicated workspace may be easier to evaluate on its own terms.
Syaxis combines deck creation and chat revisions with multi-model Chat and images. It does not bundle the ChatGPT or Claude native subscriptions. The multi-model platform comparison explains why model access and application features should be listed separately.
If the next step is a presentation, bring the selected draft and sources into Syaxis and specify the audience and topic you want to present. You can discuss and refine that material in Chat before requesting the deck. The presentation agent develops the slide structure, researches the topic and creates the slides; later revisions stay with the saved presentation.
Finish with a real handoff
Have the recipient open each file and change a heading, table value and chart label. Check the notes and any important caveat. This step can reveal practical differences that a screenshot comparison misses.
For step-by-step preparation, use the individual ChatGPT presentation guide and Claude presentation guide. Keep the same source brief when comparing the two.
FAQ
Which one makes better slides?
This documentation-based guide does not claim a tested winner. Run a representative task and compare factual corrections, revisions and recipient editing rather than relying on a generic model ranking.
Can I compare their models inside one multi-model app?
You can compare the model behavior that app exposes, but that does not compare every feature of the native ChatGPT and Claude presentation workflows.

How we prepare our guides
Syaxis uses AI to assist with drafting and translation. Comparisons draw on linked sources; they are not hands-on tests unless a test method is described. Worked examples are illustrative unless identified otherwise.
