Claude vs Gemini: Writing, Research and Presentations

Compare Claude and Gemini for document editing, research and presentation delivery, with concrete tasks and the app features each route needs.

In this article

Start with the kind of work you need to finish. Reading an existing document, developing a research answer and delivering a presentation involve different tools. This guide compares those routes, then uses a workshop deck to show how the handoff changes the choice.

This guide compares documented workflows and provides a fictional workshop exercise. It does not report native-app test results. Google’s Gemini integration is currently disabled in Syaxis; the Gemini workflow discussed here belongs to Google’s own product.

Key Takeaways

What to take away.

  1. Compare document editing and research as separate jobs before choosing a presentation route.

  2. Choose the required handoff first: a presentation file or a Google Slides document.

  3. Ask the next editor to make a real change and inspect how source corrections carry through.

For writing, decide how you want to revise the document

Claude supports uploaded documents; Gemini Canvas supports editing selected text. Start with Claude when your trial begins with an existing file you want to discuss. Start with Canvas when selecting and revising a passage in the document is the interaction you want to try. These are starting points, not exclusive capabilities or writing-quality rankings.

Try a two-page onboarding guide. Ask for a shorter introduction that retains the audience, required preparation and first-day schedule. Then change only the preparation paragraph. Keep the product in which you can find the relevant text, make the change and reuse the result with less cleanup.

For research, compare the source plan before the prose

Claude Research searches across sources; Gemini Deep Research offers a research plan. Check the mode available to your account before comparing answers.

Try a bounded question: compare three public courses for a beginner, using official syllabuses. Ask for prerequisites, topics, assessment and missing details, with a source for each. A course with no published assessment information should stay unknown, not become “no assessment.” Choose the route that gives you usable sources and a report you can revise.

PowerPoint handoff or Google Slides collaboration?

If a client requires a PPTX file, evaluate the file they will actually receive. If your team already reviews in Google Slides, evaluate the exported Slides document and its sharing settings. A good preview in an assistant does not answer either question.

Claude’s file route and Gemini Canvas’s Slides route are reasons to try each workflow. They are not exclusive claims about everything those products can do, and they do not establish an accuracy or design winner.

Confirm which product and settings you are using

Anthropic documents the file workflow in Create and edit files with Claude. Google documents slide creation and export in Gemini Canvas help. Confirm current access and organization restrictions in your own account.

This comparison concerns Claude’s app and Gemini Apps Canvas. A Gemini feature inside another Google product, or access to a model through an API, is a separate interface. Do not assume a tutorial for one interface establishes the export controls or permissions of another.

Try a workshop brief with a fixed time budget

Use this fictional source: “Create a 45-minute onboarding workshop for 12 new team leads. Allocate 5 minutes to the goal, 10 to a worked example, 20 to a paired exercise and 10 to discussion. The exercise uses a fictional customer case. Success will be assessed with a short exit question; no outcome has been measured. The facilitator and session date are not assigned.”

Ask each app for five slides: purpose, agenda, worked example, exercise instructions and closing question. Keep the source and audience identical, but request the documented handoff for each workflow: a PPTX from Claude and a Google Slides export from Gemini Canvas. That compares your actual delivery routes rather than pretending the file tools are identical.

Record the native app, account, date and enabled tools. The exercise below is a review method you can run; its numbers describe the fictional workshop, not benchmark results.

Ask the next editor to make the handoff edit

In the delivered file or Slides document, have a colleague change a heading and the paired-exercise duration. Inspect whether the text can be edited directly, whether the layout holds, and whether the correct people can access the document. Check sharing deliberately before using a real customer case.

Then request this revision in the assistant: “Reduce the exercise from 20 to 15 minutes and increase discussion from 10 to 15 minutes. Keep the total at 45 minutes, the first two segments unchanged and the audience at 12 people. Update every agenda and instruction that mentions the timings.”

The revised allocation is 5 + 10 + 15 + 15 = 45. Check the agenda, exercise slide, closing slide and any facilitator notes. A changed agenda with an old instruction still asking for a 20-minute exercise is an incomplete revision.

Keep proposals and source conflicts visible

The fictional source says the session has not run. A slide claiming that the workshop improved team performance would therefore be invented. Keep the exit question as an assessment plan, not a measured result.

For a more demanding review, supply two clearly dated versions of your own approved memo and state which is authoritative. If one says 12 participants and the other 16, the assistant should not silently blend them. Check the title, seating or group instructions, and any quantities affected by the update.

Choose the route that survives team use

If your colleagues need Google Slides, start by evaluating Gemini Canvas’s documented export there. If the contractual handoff is a PowerPoint file, start with Claude’s documented file creation. In either case, the useful verdict depends on the file, source fidelity and revisions your team actually observes.

For step-by-step guidance, read the Gemini presentation guide or Claude PowerPoint guide. For a presentation-focused workspace, Syaxis offers deck creation, chat revisions and PowerPoint export; it does not supply native Google Workspace or Claude app access.

FAQ

Choose a route to evaluate based on the handoff you need, then inspect the actual deck. Claude documents PPTX creation and Gemini Canvas documents Google Slides export. This article does not claim a tested quality winner.

No. Treat each product interface and its account requirements separately. This article covers Gemini Apps Canvas and the documented export to Google Slides.

Gemini is currently disabled in Syaxis. The Google workflow discussed here is a separate native product, not an included feature of a Syaxis subscription.

Bring it into your work.

Choose for the task you repeat: revising a document, researching a question or maintaining a deck. For the presentation steps, use the Claude PowerPoint guide or the Gemini presentation guide.

How we prepare our guides

Syaxis uses AI to assist with drafting and translation. Comparisons draw on linked sources; they are not hands-on tests unless a test method is described. Worked examples are illustrative unless identified otherwise.
